Mary Jane Barton, 90 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. She was born in Sandford, IN on February 21, 1933 to John Denham and Lena Tweedy Denham.

Mary was a 1951 graduate of Fayette High School. She eloped and married H. Robert (Bob) Barton in Shawneetown, IL on April 9, 1954. Together, they formerly owned H.R. Barton Masonry and Cheetah Building Products (originally Monninger Corp. Block & Brick) where she served in various roles.

Mary is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bob Barton and their three children: Lynette Barton, Bryan Barton (Kelley Hunter), and Monte Barton. One of the greatest joys of her life was that her only two grandchildren shared the same birthday, Leanna Baker (Justin), and Krista Barton (Brad Shaffer). She is also survived by two great grandchildren, David and Andrew Baker, as well as several nieces and nephews who she cherished dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings; Norma Harris, Richard Denham, Clyde Denham, Bill Denham, her twin sister Margaret Dyer, and Charles Denham.

Mary Jane bowled for many years and loved playing cards. She religiously attended her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Larry Bird. For many years, Mary Jane attended races held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for decades and cherished her family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Pat Evanoff officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow services.
