James Edward Darkis, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away May 31, 2023 in Gibson Family Hospice Center. James was born on August 24, 1933 in West Terre Haute, IN, to Ralph Darkis and Nona Certain Darkis. He was retired from Duke Energy formerly known as PSI. He later worked and retired from Columbia House and Paitson Hardware. He was a former member of Eighth Ave. Baptist Church and presently a member of Rosedale Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, painting and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rosemary and her husband Ray O’Nan. He is survived by his wife, Ilene Rose Gambill Darkis. He is survived by two daughters; Debbie Hoggatt (Kevin) of Rosedale and Jennifer Lynch of Terre Haute. He is survived by three grandchildren; Jamie Hoggatt (Zi) of Clinton, IN, Cody Lynch of Terre Haute and Abby Beatty (Ross) of Lebanon, IN. One nephew, Kevin Collenbaugh (Connie) of Terre Haute and Amy Sowders (Troy) of Florida as well as great nieces and one great nephew. Services are Saturday June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow at Roselawn. VFW Post 972 will conduct Military Rites.
