Bruce Dale Foster of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed suddenly on June 17th, 2023, at the age of 64. Bruce leaves behind his wife, Klisse, four children: Shannon (m. Chad Ellis), Cary, Tracy, and Elsie, and two grandchildren, Seth and Autumn. Bruce is survived by his mother Betty (neé Ely), sister Tammy (m. Harv Brittain), brother Ron (m. Kelli), and by many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Larry.
Bruce was born March 18th, 1959 to Larry & Betty Foster. Bruce was the eldest of three children, and was a loving son and brother. Bruce graduated from Indiana University and continued in his father’s footsteps by working for IBM.
Bruce married his first wife and high school sweetheart, Laura, in 1980 and welcomed their daughter, Shannon, in 1981. Bruce and Laura started their first farm, Long Acres, in Columbus, Indiana. They later moved to Terre Haute to their second farm, Robin-Wood, where they raised Nubian and LaMancha dairy goats. Bruce and his family had multiple national American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) winners, including SGCH Long Acres Shannon’s Mimi who was a two-time ADGA national champion in the LaMancha breed.
After Bruce and Laura divorced in 1997, he met and married Klisse in 2001. They had three children: Cary, Tracy, and Elsie. Bruce, Klisse, and their children continued raising and exhibiting multiple national ADGA winners in the Recorded Grade and Sable Saanen breeds, including SGCH Klisse’s Triumph of Hope.
Bruce was a kind, generous, and helpful person. He always had a smile on his face, and never turned down anyone in their time of need. Many people will remember his laugh, his jokes, and his life lessons. Most of all, many will remember his trademark hugs.
Bruce was a major advocate for youth education and exhibition in the dairy goat project. He served many years as the Vigo County 4-H goat leader in Terre Haute, and was on the ADGA Youth Committee up until his passing. He assisted with youth activities at the ADGA National Show, the ADGA National Convention, and at the Indiana State Fair. He also was the coach of several winning teams for Dairy Goat Judging at the Indiana State Fair. He recently was elected as a director for District IV of ADGA, in hopes he could help the association and its members.
Bruce offered many opportunities to youth who wanted to exhibit outside of the state. He treated each of these children just like his own, and they called themselves “Foster Kids”. His numerous “Foster” children can attest to the constant support, love, and encouragement he gave them, inside or outside the show arena. Bruce was proud of each and every one of his kids, whether they were his own or his “Foster” children.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Bruce would like to set up a memorial that will fund a scholarship program open to youth in the dairy goat project. If you are interested in contributing, please click the following link: https://givebutter.com/brucedfosteryouth
