Duke Energy: Power restoration under way

Illustration

From Duke Energy:

The severe storm event that passed through the state yesterday afternoon left behind significant damage to the electrical infrastructure. Wind gusts reached as high as 90 miles per hour in some areas, taking down trees, lines and poles. The storm caused more than 200,000 power outages across nearly all of the 28 districts Duke Energy serves in Indiana.

Crews began making repairs as soon as conditions were safe, and we are bringing in more than 1,000 additional lineworkers from other regions to help. We have also begun assessing damage to provide estimated times of restoration to those without power. Current forecasts for the area show that we could experience additional severe storms today and into the weekend. If so, we may need to adjust our initial restoration times to account for new damage and outages.

Visit our Storm Center to learn how to remain safe before, during and after a storm, and consider making plans for the elderly and those with special medical needs since restoration could take some time.

Please remember these important safety tips:

  • Stay clear of downed power lines
  • Always assume that fallen lines are energized and dangerous
  • Report downed lines at 800.343.3525

Thank you for your patience. We will continue to provide additional updates here as we progress.
