Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett posted this on his Facebook page at 11:20 a.m.:

We still have a few City streets closed due to trees down with power lines entangled. Duke Energy is working on moving those lines so we can get the trees moved. They have stated to haul away storm debris but the focus is on clearing all streets first. Please put your limbs in the tree row and we will eventually get to them.

We have several city departments out working on the situation. They all have specific duties and are focused on getting all areas open. Please watch for our workers as you drive through the city.

The American Red Cross is assisting several families right now and their office at the Meadows is open to assist.

Duke Energy reports that they have 300 private contractor linemen descending on our community to assist their local and regional crews. They plan keep working around the clock to get the power restored to everyone.

-Mayor Duke A Bennett

As of 11 a.m. Duke Energy reported 50,000 remain without power in the greater Terre Haute area.
