Tommy J. Merritt, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday July 16, 2023 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Tommy was born May 12, 1943 in Parke County Indiana to George T. Merritt and Nema Wright Merritt. Tommy was retired from the Teamsters Local 135 after over 30 years of service working for Dennis Trucking when he retired. Tommy enjoyed collecting and working on Antique Ford Tractors and Antique Cars. He was very handy and could fix just about anything that he was asked to fix and especially enjoyed helping his friends fix their cars. He was known to help anyone at any time day or night. He was a former member of the Wabash Valley Model “A” Club, now known at the Sycamore “A”s. He was a former Cub Master and the Otter Creek Citizens Patrol. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; Kate, Don, Kenny, Moyne and June as well as his son, John Allen Merritt who passed away in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Sue Merritt whom he married January 18, 1964. He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Coleman (Gary) of Terre Haute, two sons; Mark Merritt (Kristin) of Terre Haute and George Merritt (Laura) also of Terre Haute. He is survived by one brother, Neil Merritt (Mary Ann) of Terre Haute and seven grandchildren. Kassandra, Morgan, Karolyn and Madason (R.J.), Connor, Zane and Zander as well as one great grandson, Raiden. He is also survived by Harold Taylor, his best friend of 60 years as well as several nieces and nephews.  Services are at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday July 19, 2023 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home. Pastor Keith Taylor will be officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
