Betty Rose (Goucher) Cornelius, 97 years, passed away peacefully with family members at her side on July 26, 2023 at Providence Health Care.
Having resided at Providence since 2021, the family extends their sincere gratitude to every staff member for the excellent care they provided to her, and to all the sisters that befriended her.
A long-term resident of Terre Haute, Indiana, Betty worked at Fuqua Elementary in numerous roles for many years, building relationships with countless students over the years.
She never met a stranger, and will be remembered for her stories, spunky spirit, love of painting ceramics, and joy of reading (especially Murder Mystery and Amish books).
Betty leaves a large legacy and family, whom she loved dearly. She was blessed with 10 children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by children Bill Goucher (Arlene), Wayne Cornelius (Kathy), Debbie Melvin, Carol Nasser, Pam Wright, and Angela Horstman (Ken).
She was preceded in death by spouse Rex Cornelius, sons David and Larry Cornelius, and daughters Diana and Linda Cornelius.
A private burial service will take place on Saturday, July 29 at Mount Pleasant. Greiner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead donate to Providence Food Pantry of West Terre Haute, or a charity of one’s choice.
