TERRE HAUTE – Vigo County Emergency Dispatch may have a new location at a cost of at least $900,000.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Vigo County Council two County Commissioners made it known that keeping the emergency dispatch in the present location is not an option.

The dispatch center is currently in the basement of the former jail building which may have contributed to the many communication problems since the June 30 storm.

The old jail is deteriorating.

There are two options, Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard and Commissioner Mike Morris told the council.

One is to move the emergency dispatch center to the Vigo County Community Corrections building at a cost of $900,000 and the other viable alternative is to move dispatch to the new jail at an estimated cost of at least $4 million.

A resolution to move the emergency communications center out of its present location was unanimously passed.
