Ronald “Farmer Ron” Lee Scherb, 69, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on August 25, 2023, following complications of brain cancer.

Ron was born on December 31, 1953, in Clay County, Indiana, the son of Henry V. and Hester (Chambers) Scherb. He graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1972. Ron was an alumni from the Purdue Agriculture Short Course. He worked as a grain and dairy farmer for 50 years. He also worked for Harvestore Sales selling silos and slurrystores, Moews Seed Company selling seed corn, Stine’s selling soybeans, and for Byron Seed, selling cover crop seed. He also farmed and sold grain, hay, and straw. Ron especially enjoyed hosting farm field trips for children from local elementary and preschools.

He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinals sports teams. He enjoyed cheering for IU and Purdue equally unless they were playing each other then he became a solid Purdue fan. He supported Clay County 4-H, F.F.A., and Soil and Water Conservation. He enjoyed his time at the Family Table and telling jokes.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Hester Scherb and two brothers: John Scherb and Henry Alan Scherb.

He is survived by his wife Katherine whom he married November 21, 1975; two daughters and their husbands: Jennifer Swearingen (Ryan) and Caroline Koehler (Cleve); grandchildren: Zach, Luke, and Emily; a brother George Scherb and a sister Margaret Ann Silvers – Sanders as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Graveside services will be at Summit Lawn Cemetery on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM.
