Debra “Debbie” Bright, age 59, of Terre Haute, Indiana, brightened our lives until her passing on
August 31, 2023, in her hometown she loved. Born on January 9, 1964, Debbie’s vivacious
personality and her love for all furry creatures, great and small, made her truly one-of a kind.
Known as the “Shopping Queen,” Debbie had a knack for finding the perfect gifts and putting
smiles on everyone’s faces. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds – she was always
there to lend a helping hand, went out of her way to make others feel special and did what she
could to put a smile on your face.
Debbie, survivor of fierce shopping battles and retail therapy champion, is remembered by her
sister Cindy Jones, her brothers Rodd and Todd Bright, and Richard Jones. She held a special
place in the hearts of her niece Toni Callahan (Casey), nephew Anthony Becking. The bright
and lively Debbie also leaves behind an amazing constellation of great nieces and great
nephews: Maddison Roeder (Zack),Olivia Callahan, Camren Callahan (Emily), Carson
Callahan, Connor Callahan, Claire Callahan, Cali Callahan, Indie Jo Roeder, and Madden
Roeder. The family would also like to mention her good friend Rita Penman we call Debbie’s
“angel on earth”.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Robert G. Bright and Laura Mae “ Maggie”
Pierce Bright, as well as her sister Nancy Marrs Pickrell. We can’t forget to mention her furry
friends who crossed the Rainbow Bridge with her, Mercedes, Benz, Katie and Sampson.
During her sunny educational journey, Debbie attended Riley, Honey Creek, and was a
graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo Class of 1982. She reached for the educational skies at
Indiana State University. Her bright mind and dazzling smile led her to various careers, including
First Financial, Terre Haute Heart Center, Regional Hospital, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local
157, Freitag Weinhardt, Vulcan in Alabama and bestowed her with the honor of caregiving at
Hands That Serve. Being a Tri Kappa member added extra sparkle to her life, along with her
volunteer work, fund raising and showing her heart full of compassion for others.
When Debbie wasn’t making the world brighter, she loved embarking on epic shopping quests,
caring for her cherished animal campions, setting fire to the kitchen with culinary experiments,
soaking up the sun and salty air on beach getaways, and of course creating moments of joy with
her beloved family and friends. Their laughter and love were her true treasures.
To celebrate her radiant life, join her family and friends for a delightful visitation on Thursday,
September 7, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th
Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September
8, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, where we will bid farewell to Debbie with heartfelt memories
and cheerful reflections.
