Carmen Sue Davis Burns, 86 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 in Majestic Care of Terre Haute. She was born in West Terre Haute on December 13, 1936 to Richard Davis and Sarah Mariah Harris Davis.

Carmen was a school teacher with the Vigo County School Corporation and taught at Fayette Elementary. Her member ships include AO Pi Sorority, and Daughters of the Nile, and she always maintained her strong Christian Faith. After retiring from teaching, she and her husband Robert spent their winters in Florida for nearly 20 years.

Carmen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Eugene Burns and two daughters, Kim Kraner (Charles) and Penni Decker (James), as well as her grandchildren; Megan Hancock (Parker), Klayton Corzine, and Kirstin Clark, and also by her great grandchildren; Landon Hancock, Mason Hancock, and Reagan Hancock. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 6:00 PM, with Pastor Joe Irwin officiating. Cremation will follow services. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
