TERRE HAUTE, Indiana (DLC Media) – A commemorating marker was placed in Terre Haute to honor the city’s Hungarian immigrants. The marker is located at 24th Street and Maple Avenue.
Just under 100 people were in attendance for the unveiling ceremony. In attendance was the president of the first Hungarian Working Men’s Sick and Death Benevolence Society Larry Willson, as well as Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett.
The idea behind the marker came from Nurse Practitioner Laura Loudermilk, who is from Terre Haute. Loudermilk’s push for the marker comes from her grandparents who are both Hungarian immigrants.
