Michael Lee Hill, 66, of Terre Haute passed away September 16, 2023. He was born October 4, 1956 in Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana to William Leslie and Louise Danielson Hill.
In the beginning Michael (Mike) lived with his family on the outskirts of Chesterton, Indiana. At the age of six, his family moved to Washington, Indiana. Due to his father’s occupation, they moved several times. He worked hard and graduated from Oaklawn High School in Chicago in just three years. He started his own lawn care business, then he started an outdoor painting business. He attended ISU for a time, got married and had a son. While doing a painting job in Chicago, he was offered a job in a book binding plant. He soon became supervisor and worked there several years. He and his family lived in Florida for a short time, but came back to Chicago and to the book binding business. He later moved to Terre Haute and started a construction business, where he joined with his brother Matthew. They were close brothers and friends. He would also occasionally go back to Florida to work with his brother Jeff. He was presently semi-retired after years of being a talented contractor.
Michael was a happy person and loved life. He was raised in the Lutheran Church and loved attending the one on Beck Street. He enjoyed watching ball games, especially football on television even when he was a child – and that was back in the day when families only had one TV. So one Christmas when he was in junior high his family surprised him with his own TV. He got one before his older siblings had one!
Growing up his family was very involved in the boy scouts. He enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada and the canoe base in Wisconsin.
He was an avid race fan and attended many Indianapolis 500 races with friends and family over the years. He also loved Formula One.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, William Hill; his sister, Susan Hill; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his mother; son, Alex Hill; daughter, Audrey Pink; two brothers Jeff Hill of Florida and Matthew Hill (Debbie) of Terre Haute; and two nieces Erin and Gina Hill.
Cremation was chosen. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.greinerfuneralhome.com
