In Loving Memory of William C. Edwards, Jr.
It is with heavy hearts and sadness, we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, grandfather,
brother, uncle, friend and mentor, William C. Charles, Jr. who went to be with Christ on December 11,
2023.
Bill was married for 35 years to Linda. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St.
Joseph University Parish. He is survived by his son Will, his children Thatcher, and Lorelai; his son, Rob,
his wife Amy, and their children Brayden, his fiancé Carlie, Chandler, and Foster. His surviving siblings
include David, his wife Mary, Patty Cottom, Bob and many nieces and nephews.
Bill loved playing with his boys in the side yard. Their favorite games included home run derby, around-
the-world basketball, and Ultimate Hide N Seek. Some of Bill’s cherished times were kayaking on the
French Broad River in North Carolina, paddling his canoe on Sugar Creek, attending the Indianapolis 500,
and watching professional tennis tournaments. If you know Bill, you will remember his Italian Beef and
his evening popcorn.
He was affectionately known as Babaw to his five grandchildren. His patience and attitude with them
was something to behold. He would sit for hours on end to yell boom baby at each three-pointer made
on the plastic basketball goal and he would play racing games to the point of falling asleep while driving.
When canoeing and kayaking, he would act like he was going to flip over the boat. Babaw loved it when
Chandler followed in his footsteps and became an EMT and campus minister.
Bill was born on March 28, 1948 to William C. Edwards, Sr. and Lois Edwards (Gallagher) in Terre Haute,
Indiana. He attended St. Ann’s (1962) and Schulte High School (1966). He was honorably discharged
from the Navy in 1967. He showed his commitment to continuous progress when he graduated with a
bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana State University in 1996.
Bill worked for nearly 30 years at Commercial Solvents and IMC which later became Pitman Moore. It
was in this role he displayed his dedication, determination, and loyalty by riding his bike five miles each
way when the family’s car broke down. When the weather turned too bad to ride, he would walk both
ways instead. He was most proud of his work as a youth minister for St. Patrick’s Parish for nearly 10
years. In his later years, he loved working as an usher at Hulman Center and would often tell stories of
the athletes and musicians that would pass through his door.
He and Linda attended St. Joseph University Parish where they served as Youth Advisors for the Student
Catholic Center on ISU’s campus. They opened their home to many college students and often provided
a place to stay when housing was needed. Will and Rob were the true benefactors of this outreach as
they were able to witness the unselfish generosity of their parents while having the opportunity to meet
life-long “college kids” and friends.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 S. 5 th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807 at 10:00 AM
with Mass following at 11:00 AM. We will have a gathering with food, family, friends, and memories
immediately following in the Gregorian Room next door.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your favorite charity or to The
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in memory of Bill.
Rest in peace Bill/Dad/Babaw/Uncle Bill/Brother/Friend/Mentor. You will forever be missed and will
never be forgotten.
