
Carl Leslie Dougherty,70 passed away at home with his wife and son by his side after a long battle with
Parkinson’s disease.
He was born the son of LTC John Henry Dougherty and Gloria Anderson Dougherty on February 25, 1953
in Belvoir, Virginia. In his early years he traveled with his family to where his father was stationed with
the Army and moved to Terre Haute in 1963.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Christian Dougherty his father
and mother-in-law, Jay and Flo Pfleging and a brother-in-law, Jay Pfleging.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Beth, Son John Henry, his wife Carolina of Fort Lauderdale
Florida and their two children, Henry William and Eva Carolina. He adored and was very proud of his
grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother Robert Dougherty, his wife Vicki of Casey, Illinois and a
sister Joanne Cooprider of Jupiter, Florida, He is survived by a brother-in-law, Bruce Pfleging and a sister
and brother-in-law Janet and David Hasler of Leicester, New York. He also leaves behind 15 nieces and
nephews and their children.
He attended Wiley High school graduating in 1971 and went onto Indiana University graduating in 1975.
While at IU he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and IU football team.
After graduating from Indiana University, he joined the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union 157,
working until his retirement in 2015. He had many fond memories of working at Sycamore Engineering
and took great pride in the projects he worked on.
While John Henry was growing up he actively supported activities he participated in, especially baseball
and scouting. Over the years he was very proud of his son’s accomplishments.
Prior to his Parkinsons diagnosis he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and was an avid historical
reenactor traveling to Revolutionary and Civil War events.
He was a member of the Wabash Valley Motorcycle Club, helping to organize charitable rides for St
Ann’s Clinic.
He also was an active member in Social Lodge No. 86, Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana where he
served as the Worshipful Master in 2018.
His retirement was not as planned due to his Parkinsons diagnosis but did enjoy spending time with John
Henry and his family in Florida. On his last visit to Florida, they attended a spring training game together,
making his last visit extra special.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date Greiner funeral home assisted with
arrangements.
