John William Mankin, 74, passed away with his wife by his side at Union Hospital on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. John was born on December 4, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was adopted by Jack H. and Betsy C. Mankin shortly after his birth.
John grew up in Terre Haute and graduated from Garfield High School in 1968. He lettered in golf and had his own band. John enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, music and he also loved to have cookouts with his friends.
John was so kind, loving and giving. We had that kind of love, that even after twenty-one years it felt like the first. We never argued, we would just agree to disagree, because everyone has their own opinion and we just loved each other deeply. We always said to each other, “I love you forever and a day” and I called him “my love.” He called me “his angel.”
He is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Glenna M. Mankin; his stepchildren, Daniel Bell and Robin Bell Sharp; his sister, Catherine Mankin McDonald and her husband Kenneth McDonald; his two daughters, Angela Ramey and Melisa Bailey; two nieces AriAnna McDonald Quick and Kristina McDonald; eleven grandchildren and two grandnieces.
Greiner Funeral Home was entrusted with John’s cremation and a celebration of life will take place in the spring. He loved the spring and summertime! Dates and times will be announced at a later time.
