We lost our best friend and loved one on Valentine’s Day. Charles Gary Howlett of Terre Haute died at Regional Hospital on February 14, 2024. He was able to share goodbyes and memories with his family before he passed.

Gary was born on December 4, 1952, to Charles Arthur and Helen (Cooprider) Howlett in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a member of the last graduating class of Wiley High School. He was an Indiana National Guardsman and worked for Terre Haute Malleable before being disabled by rheumatoid arthritis.

Gary was a talented man, whether in the kitchen as a chef, turning wooden bowls on his lathe, hunting fossils and antiques or making stained glass pieces. He kept his wife busy finding places for his various collections.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Barbara (Kisner) Howlett; son and daughter-in-law C. Michael and Jennifer Howlett; and grandchildren Evie and Sebastain Howlett.  Gary was adopted whole-heartedly by the Kisner and Kirkman families when he married Barb, and he had strong relationships with his in-laws: Deb and Rick Johnson, Terri and Bill Svihla, Pat and Virgil Winter. Gary was quite the favorite with his nieces and nephews, David, Beth, Brooke, Connor, Carey, and Alisa.

Memorial services will be on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Blackhawk Community Church with Rev. Joseph Craft officiating. There will be no viewing or graveside services as Gary has chosen to be cremated.
