He lived by his motto of “adapt and overcome” and was so many things to so many people.  Doug was fiercely dedicated to his family, selfless, strong willed, disciplined, and stubborn as could be.   He awesome storyteller, had an amazing singing voice and an even more incredible laugh with endless Dad/Papaw jokes.  Hearing his laughter, his repeated stories, and bedtime songs to his kids and grandkids were blessings.  Doug loved deeply, had a huge heart and anyone that knew him well would say the same.  He thoroughly enjoyed his weeks in the summertime working with the Junior Police Academy, served many years with the Indiana Department of Corrections, US Marshalls, and Vigo County Sherriff’s Department.  Doug was born on June 22, 1953 in Terre Haute, IN.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joseph O. Baker & Annabelle Sagraves Baker, mother-in-law and father-in-law, John L. Lattin & Thelma Jelene Kennedy, and brothers-in-law, Gene VanLannen & Johnny Lattin.  He is survived and his legacy will live on in his loving wife that he got to spoil in their of 47 years of marriage, JoAnn Baker, his two daughters: Amy Thomas and Heather Berry (Jon), his proudest accomplishment in life of 5 grandchildren: Cecilie Combs, Alex Thomas, Douglas Thomas, Brooklyn Berry, and Samantha Thomas, sister Sandy (Ron) Carmony, sister-in-law Jenette Flesher (Steve Sears), nephews: Chad (Darcy) VanLannen & Trent (Scarlett)VanLannen, Michael Conwell, Christopher Flesher, JB Lattin, nieces: Marni (Lee) Newton, Megan (Steven) Baker, beloved pups: Chunka, Bailey & Woka, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, a few unofficially “adopted” family members along the way, and lifelong friends and companions.  A Celebration of this incredibly full and amazing Life will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 from 10:00am-5:00pm.
