James “Rick” Richard Carter Jr. 63, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away while at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, on May 6, 2024.

Rick was born on December 17, 1960, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of James Richard Carter Sr. and Delila Kay (Whitford) Carter. Rick worked as a roofer for Lough Brothers as a member of the Roofers and Waterproofer’s local 150. He also worked for NAPA, in Terre Haute, and most recently Burke Spring. Rick especially enjoyed farming and helping area farmers.

Growing up, Rick and his siblings were members of The Country Young’Uns Square Dance Club.

In his free time, Rick enjoyed being outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, and mowing his grass.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents James Richard Carter Sr. and Delila Kay Carter and his sister Rhonda Chilton.

He is survived by his siblings: Sue Cundiff (Tom), Donna Flynn (Smokey), Sheila Schroer (Rob), Bruce Carter (Mollie), Randy Carter (Susie Kraemer), Kristi Carter, and a brother-in-law Chuck Chilton; special niece and nephew Jayme Carter (Peyton Dwyer) and Dylan Carter (Jaylene Kehrt); and two dear pets: Bub and Kitty as well as many extended family members and friends.

Special thanks goes out to the staff at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care and Burke Spring family for their love and support during Rick’s illness.

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Services will follow at 12:00 PM with burial to be held at Rosedale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley 400 8th Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47804.
