She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of 47 years, whom she married on December 24, 1976, Michael “Mike” Gummere; a son whom she cherished and was very proud of James “JC” Gummere and his wife Kourtney; three grandsons who were the light of her life Evan, Hanson, and Dustin; a sister Chris Moorman; brothers-in-law Jeff Gummere and Brad Jackson; sister-in-law Perry Gardner; her 3 cats that she adored; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and granddaughter Mallorie Cochran. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1974. She went on to graduate from Indiana Business College in 1999. She worked as an Optician for many years, and helped open the Kohl’s store, in the jewelry department, when it came to Terre Haute. In her younger years, she was an aerobics instructor. Susie was a strong soul. Despite her illness these past 13 years, she found joy in life. Her family is where she found the most joy. Susie enjoyed being a Grammy to her grandchildren and spoiling them. She enjoyed being outside and taking care of her garden, plants, and flowers. Susie also had a love for cars and racing, especially the Earnhart’s and watching Gummere Family Racing at the Wabash Valley Dragstrip. She was an animal lover, and a mystery show fanatic. Susie proudly supported her husband Mike and her son JC throughout their Fire Department careers and held membership with the Honey Creek Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 12:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home. Her son JC will officiate. A burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 4:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. and on Saturday, from 10:00a.m. until service time. The family would like to thank The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for the tremendous love and care Susie received. The family also suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.
