Don R. Mitchell Jr. (Donnie), 68, of Poland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute with his loving family by his side following a short but courageous battle with cancer.  Donnie was born inTerre Haute on October 7, 1955 to Don R. Mitchell Sr. and Joanne A. Mitchell.  He graduated from Terre Haute North High School in 1974.  Before retiring, he worked as a glazer and auto glass technician, as did his father.  In his spare time, Donnie enjoyed deer/mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, and camping. He enjoyed his beloved dogs,cats and mostly feeding his raccoons. He also enjoyed watching basketball and traveling. Donnie is survived by his wife, Cherye Hoover Mitchell; Two daughters: Heather Mitchell (Charlie) and Shannon Mitchell (Joel), both of Indianapolis; Two step-children: Leah Wood (Chad) and Brian Smith, both of California; his brother, Robert (Bobby) Mitchell (Beth) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; six grandchildren: Alex and Austin Mitchell, Peyton and Rylee Mitchell, Lyla and Luke McWhirter; three nieces and one nephew along with many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Shaun Mitchell. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
