
Brazil, In. – On Monday night Purdue Extension Educators assigned to Clay County attended the Clay County Council meeting to remind the council members about upcoming events.
The 4-H Fair will be July 16-22.
Natalie Korniak, Bob Bruner and Olivia Morgan said the following programs will be offered this summer: Planting for Pollinators (June 14th), Dining with Diabetes (Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Other events are being planned. Check with the extension office at the Clay County Fairgrounds or go online for more information.
In other business:
- An application for a grant to protect county government data in the amount of $55,840 will be submitted. County Commissioner Paul Sinders said this is the second time the application has been filed. It was turned down in a previous year.
- A grant will be submitted by the Health Department. This school liaison grant for $110,000 for one year will run from July 1, to June 30, 2023.
- The jail expansion has been funded by bonding and will be started immediately.
- The council is looking about placing funds received to house ICE prisoners in a separate account.
- Sheriff Paul Harden said the council can expect a request for additional funds to feed prisoners due to increased prices.
The next meeting of the Clay County Council is set for 6 p.m., July 5, in the courthouse.
