Vermillion County – Indiana State Police initiated a criminal investigation after receiving information from the Vermillion County Victim Assistance alleging that a female had been sexually battered.

The investigation revealed that Russell B. Thompson, age 50, of Newport, IN, allegedly had battered a female sexually.

After reviewing the investigation, the Vermillion County Prosecutor requested a warrant for Thompson’s arrest.  Vermilion County Circuit Court granted an arrest warrant on July 6, 2022.  Thompson was arrested July 9, 2022, by the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department without incident, and is currently being held in the Vermillion County Jail on a $10,000 bond with 10% allowed.
