Jerry Wayne Smith, 69, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on February 17, 2023. He was born December 13, 1953, in Vermilion County, Indiana, to Samuel Smith and Beverly (Granger) Smith. Jerry owned Certified Air, a local HVAC business. Jerry was an incredibly gifted musician and songwriter, and it was more than a pastime for him; he had a deep devotion for music. If he wasn’t working, you could find him tucked away in his music room, strumming his favorite guitar, or banjo. He served in the United States Air Force in Aurora, Colorado but chose to move back home to raise his first born daughter in 1974. Shortly after, he obtained his AAS from Ivy Tech which allowed him to establish a successful HVAC business, Central Air, which he owned and operated locally for over a decade. Jerry was also a man of deep faith, who found solace and strength in the Lord. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life, and he remained steadfast in his beliefs. Most importantly, Jerry was a father and husband. His number one priority was to give his wife and two daughters a good life. He was a steady source of love, support, and motivation to his family and friends. His kindness, creativity, diligence, and faith will continue to live on through the people who were blessed to know and love him. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kay (Doughty) Smith; daughters Ella Lyn Smith (James) and Jarry Nacole Smith; grandchildren Kaylan, Hannah, Justin, and Dabious; great grandchildren Haven and Canine; and sisters Brenda, Joy, Michelle, and Cathy. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 12:05 p.m. in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 S 9th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47807. Visitation will be from 11:00a.m. until noon. Father Bob Showers will conduct Mass. Cremation will follow services. The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home with care and arrangements.
