BRAZIL – Firefighters were dispatched to 405 East Illinois St. at 3:18 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Smoke could be seen several blocks away as the Fire Engine approached.
“Upon arrival heavy fire was already coming from the front windows and east side window of the home,” said Fire Chief Jake Bennett. “The on duty crew worked hard to knock down the flames and get the fire under control and keep it from spreading to nearby homes. Off duty firefighters responded to assist in extinguishment. Occupants were out of the house prior to arrival. The Fire originated in the kitchen and spread significantly before it was noticed. The home appears to be a total loss, Red Cross was contacted to help the displaced residents. Firefighters were on scene putting out hot spots and until after 7:30 p.m .”
