Alexander C. Moody Jr. (Alex) passed away on June 1, 2023. He was born July 25, 1931 to Alex Moody
and Margaret (nee Gaul) Moody. He served for several years as a teacher and school administrator in
the state of Indiana. He served as a Vocational Agriculture teacher and Principal at Clay City High School
in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He was then Principal of Huntingburg High School for two years until he
decided to pursue higher education. As a Vocational Ag teacher, he had several FFA and 4-H judging
teams which won state and national recognition. He served as Director of Placement Services and
Professor of Educational Administration at Indiana State University from 1968 through 1997.
Dr. Moody did much of the early research and publication relating to teacher supply and demand at the
state, regional and national level. He held several offices and served as treasurer of the National Teacher
Placement Association. Dr. Moody returned to full time teaching in the College of Education in the
1980’s where he also served as the Director of the Bureau of School Services which did many studies of
school facilities and programs for school corporations in Indiana and the Midwest. He also was
responsible for public school administration placement services where he assisted school boards with
the superintendent selection process from 1968 to 1997. For several years he taught advanced statistics
to students in the cohort at ISU seeking the doctoral degree. After retirement he formed a business with
a former student and did consulting, continuing the work of performing studies of school facilities.
Moody graduated from Fontanet High School in 1949. He received his B.S. degree, Master’s degree and
the Ph. D. degree from Purdue University. His doctoral dissertation was accepted as one which
contributed to the field of educational finance by the National Committee for Educational Finance and
reported at their annual conference.
He is predeceased by his parents and wife, Shirley J. (Haase) Moody who he married on September 4,
1953. He is survived by two daughters. Anita S. Greasor and her husband Charles and their three
children. Bryan (wife Stacy) and Stephen (significant other Rachel) and Megan Clark (husband Troy).
Also, Linda J. Moody. Both daughters reside in Terre Haute.
He was a member of several organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, Indiana Association of Public
School Superintendents, Association for School College and University Staffing, the Indiana
Superintendents Association awarded him a certificate of outstanding service to the organization. He
was a member of World Gospel Church.
Services are scheduled for Friday June 16 th at Greiner Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00
with services immediately following. Pastor Jeff Lee will be conducting the service. Interment will be at
Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or to a research
organization for neurological diseases.
