Christa Phifer (Oma), 86, of Terre Haute, died at 1:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, in Union Hospital. She was born Christa Fuchslocher on January 2, 1937, in Stuttgart, Germany.
Christa was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years James Lee Phifer. Survivors include a sister Inge Buhler (Jorge and niece Katrin Jendrusch) of Germany; daughters Diana Scheid (Rick) and Heidi Phifer-Cole, both of Terre Haute; son Michael Phifer (Cathy) of Warren, Ohio; six grandchildren, Stephanie Ralston, Courtney Scheid, Baylee Cole, Logan Cole, Aaron Phifer, Angela Phifer; and two great-grandchildren Brylee Stevens and Maverick MacKellar.
Christa worked at Quaker Maid, A&P, Bemis, Columbia Records, and Gerhard’s Bierstube, a German Restaurant, for 33 1/2 years.
Christa is remembered as an energetic German who loved her family, friends, and her heritage. To know her was to love her. She loved to cook and entertain at her family home and pool. She also enjoyed her flower gardens. Christa, along with her husband, initiated the idea of creating the German Festival, known as the Oktoberfest, and was a founding member of the German Oberlandler Club in Terre Haute.
Visitation is from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at the German Oberlandler Club at 1616 Lafayette Avenue. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley who provided exceptional care to her in her final days, or a charity of your choice.
