John Cullen Shields, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away July 26, 2023 in his residence surrounded by his family. John was born July 12, 1942 to James L. Shields and Betty E. Keiser Shields in Brazil, Indiana and spent his first several years along with his mother on the Clay County Farm of his grandparents, Oscar and Estell Keiser while his father served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army. On July 30, 1992 John married Lisa Bush and she preceded him in death on August 30, 2022 after 30 years of marriage. Also preceding him were his grandparents, parents, his stepfather, John Clingerman, a brother Paul Clingerman and a son in-law Paul Grooms. Survivors include his daughters; Brenda James (Ron), Pamela Grooms and Lisa Fineis (Ken), a sister, Mary Modesitt (Jim), a brother, Jimmy Shields (Denise), a sister in-law, Susan Clingerman. Grandchildren; Emily Grooms, Hannah James, Luke Fineis and Mark Fineis. Also his good friends; Mitch Hargis, John Moscan, Melissa and Debbie. John graduated from Glenn High School in 1960 and retired from PSI now known as Duke Energy in 1998 after 32 years as a working foreman., Line serviceman and Journeyman Lineman “A”. He was a member of IBEW Local 1393 and Memorial United Methodist Church. John enjoyed his friends and neighbors, the Keiser Kousins Lunches, reading, Saturday night suppers and table games with his wife Lisa and good friend Melissa, boating, woodworking, auctions, collecting John Deere memorabilia and his Border Collie Sophie. Services are Thursday August 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN. 47804. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time on Thursday at the Funeral Home. Pastor Ron Branson will be officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
