Nellie Louise Milner, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on the
1 st day of September 2023. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on the 27 th day of November
1943 to Ralph J. Adams and Dorothy Marie Black.
Nellie was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and attended Indiana Business College. She
became a legal secretary for the law firm of Hilliary, Shafer & Francis and left that law firm to
raise her two children. In later years she was a legal secretary for Robert F. Wallace, Herbert R.
Gerdink, Edward Hamilton, & John R. Jett. She became court reporter in Vigo Superior Court
Division 1, for the Honorable Michael H. Eldred and Honorable John Roach, for a total of forty-
one years.
Nellie loved to surround herself with friends and family. Her calendar was filled with breakfast,
lunch and dinner dates, social gatherings, and even road trips. She loved a bargain and enjoyed
giving gifts. She stayed active with shopping and thrifting. She also enjoyed being outdoors
working in her yard, as well as the yards of family and neighbors.
Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Golden Clark Adams and Alice
Autry of Utah, and Faye Maxine Lawrence and Jesse (Beatrice) Adams of Terre Haute. She is
also preceded in death by her son, Bradley E. Milner.
Nellie is survived by her other son, Noel R. Milner and his wife, Joyce, as well as her other
daughter-in-law, Sheila R. Milner. Four grandchildren: Josey Denise (Jeremy) Johnson, Brett Ray
Milner, Justin Wade (Kodi Jenkins) Milner, and Elizabeth Marie Milner. Nine great
grandchildren: Nicholas Milner, Elijah Crysell, Ryanne Milner, Trinity Milner, Jackson and Carter
Totten, and Matilda, Lily and Loretta Humek. One nephew, Andrew (Kristy) Adams, and one
niece, Shelly (Jason) Durr, as well as several great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Nellie was well respected throughout the community and the beloved matriarch of her family.
She had a great sense of humor and quick wit. She was an advocate and/or mentor for many
people and will be dearly missed by all.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday September 8, 2023 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North

13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. Noon on Thursday until service time.
