John Gerold “Shim” Shimshak, 77 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in his residence.  He was born in Terre Haute on February 24, 1946 to John Shimshak and Cleta Shapel Shimshak.

John was a concrete finisher with Laborer’s Local # 204, and member of the Young Men’s Club in West Terre Haute and was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan.

John is survived by his sister Brenda Newburn, his nephew Harry F. “Shim” Newburn IV, and several other nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Melvin Duane Cooper, and a sister, Lonita Cooper.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 4:00 PM.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow services, with burial in Bethesda Memorial Park at a later date.  Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the funeral home.
