Darla Kay Barrett, 59, of Cory, Indiana, passed away on October 16, 2023, at 3:00 PM, following a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Darla was born on July 8, 1964, in Terre Haute, Indiana the daughter of Robert McDaniel and Betty (Steen) McDaniel. She graduated from Paris High School with the class of 1983 and attended Harrold Beauty Academy. She has been a beautician for close to 40 years. She worked at The Orpheum in Terre Haute before opening her own shop, Barrett’s Country Style, in Cory, which she has owned and operated for 32 years.
Darla loved taking walks, riding her bike, going to flea markets, and shopping (especially for shoes and clothes). She particularly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family by the pool.
Darla attended Van Cleve Church. She loved attending the Cory Apple Festival and the Covered Bridge Festival. Her creativity was shown by her eye for interior decorating, hair styling, and her great sense of fashion.
Darla was preceded in death by her father, Robert McDaniel and her son, Skylar Barrett.
Darla is survived by her mother, Betty (Steen) McDaniel; her husband, Kevin “The Egg Man” Barrett whom she married April 2, 1988; her children: Spenser Barrett (Koletta Tatom and her son Samuel Byrd), Seth Barrett (Seth’s dog Miya), Justin Barrett (LaShawn Tyler), and Jordan Thompson (Kyle and their children: Reagan and Rhett Thompson); sister Debbie Heltsley (her husband Michael and their family: Lisa and Heath Price their children: Allison, Khale, and Ella; his son: Blake and wife Robin Heltsley); brother Bobby McDaniel (Annette and their children: Caleb, Kyle, and Craig McDaniel); brother-in-law: Kirby Barrett (Jo Barrett and their family: Jaclyn Fedchak [her husband Paul and their children: Grey and Parker] and Kourtney Bennett [her husband Bryan]), and the late Jessica Barrett; the Souder family: Dee, Don, Dan, and Doug and their families.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834 on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Rick Wetnight officiating.
