Denise Cornett Justice, 77, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023. She was born in Vicco, Kentucky to Otis Cornett and Mary (Cates) Cornett on November 12, 1946. She attended school in Pikeville, Kentucky, then moved to Indiana and graduated from Elnora High School in 1964. She remained in contact with many friends from both schools.
Denise lived most of her life in Princeton, Indiana. She was a member of the Antiquarian Society and Tri-Kappa. She worked as a reading aide for the Gibson County School Corporation. Not only did she teach young children to read, she also inspired, supported, encouraged, valued, and loved them, keeping in contact with many of them through adulthood. She made an impact on their lives and was proud of who they grew up to be. Denise retired from the school corporation in 2005.
She was a proud American, enjoyed flower gardening, and was an animal lover, taking in many stray cats over her lifetime. She was an avid primitive antique collector, and decorating was her passion. Two magazines wanted to include her collection in articles, and in July 2009, her home was featured in Country Sampler magazine.
Family was most important to Denise. Holidays were always a special time spent with her children and grandchildren. After moving to Terre Haute, she looked forward to Sunday dinners. Denise is survived by her daughters Kara Wilkinson (Jeff) of Terre Haute and Susan Slaughter (Troy) of Newburgh; grandchildren Kari Krupa (Kyle), Jake Wilkinson, Lauren Slaughter (Dan), and Trey Slaughter (Yen-Ling); great-grandchildren Kolsen, Kase, Leon, and soon-to-arrive Ada; twin brother Mike Cornett (Marcella) and brother Dale Cornett (Rita); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Junior Dellinger, her great-grandson Kaden Krupa, and two nephews John Michael Cornett and Jeff Cornett. Because she was such an animal lover, donations can be made to your local humane shelter in Denise’s memory. The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home with care and arrangements.
