Richard Van Hook, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at Majestic Care of Deming Park.
Richard was born March 18, 1935, in Fontanet, IN, to William Van Hook and Opal (Kyle) Van Hook. Richard began his career at the Quaker Maid plant many years ago. He often reminisced about the friendships he had made there; he considered those former co-workers extended family. Richard found his lifetime career as a 50-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Before retiring, Richard married Roberta Webster, from Fontanet. They were married on October 8, 1999. Upon retirement, Richard worked a part-time position in general maintenance for 15+ years with Newlin-Johnson Realty.
Some of Richard’s interests included: going out to eat, telling stories, playing his keyboard, Indiana Pacers basketball and working around his property.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Bill Van Hook, Bob Van Hook, and Norma Pierce; as well as a daughter in-law, Kimberly Van Hook.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Roberta Van Hook; one son, Jay Van Hook of Spring Hill, FL; a daughter, Tonya Van Hook of Johnson City, TN; and a sister, Phyllis Landes. He is also survived by stepchildren and spouses, Kim Stevenson (David) of Terre Haute, Richard Persinger (Betty) of Webb City, MO, and Robert Persinger (Lisa) of Mount Washington, KY; grandchildren, Jay Van Hook Jr., Jayme Van Hook, Jerrod Van Hook, Gwen Kirschke, Nathan Persinger (Amelia), Zachary Persinger (Deanna), LeTitia Persinger, Kaitlyn Brussell (Cory), and Brandon Persinger (Jade); and several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services are on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Pastor Bill Herb officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Majestic Care of Deming Park and VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley. They offered Richard and family much support and care during his final journey.
