
Jane A. “Jan” Zwerner, 78, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday evening, January 25, 2024 in Union Hospital. She was born September 30, 1945 in Terre Haute to Frank A. Prox and Martha Jane Hefty Prox.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dr. Paul F. Zwerner; five children, Amy Marie Gibson (Greg), Dr. Jeffrey Paul Zwerner (Barbara), Dr. Frank Anton Zwerner (Randi), Adam Joseph Zwerner and Nicholas Gene Zwerner; eight grandchildren, Jack Gibson, Lucy Gibson, Ian Zwerner, Drew Zwerner, Quinn Zwerner, Gabriella Zwerner, Lincoln Zwerner and Harrison Zwerner; and her two sisters, Joan Conard (Richard) and Mary Oldham (Max). She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jan was a graduate of Schulte High School, attended Fontbonne College in Clayton, MO and earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. Early in her career she was an elementary school teacher but was best known for her many years working at Terre Haute North Vigo High School. She enjoyed over 20 years as the main office secretary at TH North during which she was considered to be the heart and voice of the school. She had a strong Catholic faith and attended St. Joseph University Parish and St. Benedict Church. Jan was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading mysteries and poetry. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:05 PM, Friday, February 2, 2024 in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Bob Showers officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1st from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
