
Betty Lou Patterson, 90, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Gibson Family Center in Union Hospital. She was born on September 4, 1929 in Mattoon, IL to John W. And Susie (Storm) Sparks. She married James “Bill” Patterson on September 19, 1948. He preceded her in death in March 2019 after over 70 years of marriage.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene Sparks and Ken Sparks; sister, Marilyn Meads; and adopted sister, Carole Wright.
Betty is survived by her children, James D. Patterson and wife Jane of Terre Haute, Cindy Gosewehr and husband Steve of Lafayette, Julie Neice and husband Joe of Terre Haute, and Jenny King of Sebastian, FL; grandchildren, Stacey (Mark) Samuels of Terre Haute, Beth Gosewehr of Indianapolis, Jimmy (Anna) Patterson of Terre Haute, Melissa King of Sebastian, FL, Brooke (Adam) Bear of Champaign, IL, Sam (Brooke) King of Sebastian, FL; Josh (Erica) Neice of Terre Haute, and Annie (Chad) Skelton of Terre Haute; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sparks of Pekin, IL and Jodi Sparks of Mattoon, IL; eight great-grandchildren; and last, but definitely not least, her beloved dog, Henry.
Betty worked in the business office at WTHI and ISU for several years. She also worked for Congressman John Myers, assisting him with his duties to his local constituents. Betty loved to give of her time freely, volunteering at the Vigo County Public Library, Union Hospital Service League, and sewing Puppy Pillows for children in the hospital. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Betty enjoyed doing crafts, needlework, and cooking when she was home. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
Services for Betty will be private and she will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park, next to her husband. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Service League at Union Hospital or the Vigo County Public Library.
