Gus Sacopulos passed away on October 11, 2021. He was born August 3, 1935, to Peter and Eugenia Sacopulos in Gary, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty (60) years, Joy Sacopulos, as well as his mother and father. He is survived by his sons, Peter (Melony), and Michael (Darla) and four grandchildren, Alexandria, Olivia, Nicholas, and Alexander. He is also survived by his two sisters, Penny Yelkovac and Becky Sacopulos, both of Valparaiso, Indiana.

Gus grew up in Gary, Indiana, where he worked in his family business—The Toasty Shop—a diner that catered to steel mill workers. He graduated from Gary Emerson High School. Then, he attended and earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University. After practicing briefly in Evansville, Indiana, he relocated to Terre Haute, Indiana. He joined and became a partner in the law firm of Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan. Then, in 1976, he established his own practice, Sacopulos & Crawford, with the late James Crawford. He practiced law in this community for more than fifty years representing local businesses as well as serving as national litigation counsel for companies representing his clients both in state and federal courts.

Gus was a member of many organizations including the Indiana Bar Association, American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, Seventh Circuit Bar Association, American College of Trial Lawyers, American Board of Trial Advocates, the International Society of Barristers, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the International Association of Insurance Law, the Association of Insurance Attorneys, the Indiana Bar Foundation, the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys, the Indiana Defense Lawyers Association, the American Judicature Society, the Defense Research Institute, the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics, and the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys. He was President of the Terre Haute Bar Association from 1972 to 1973 and a founding member of the Workers Compensation Defense Bar Association of Indiana.

A Public Visitation will take place this Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home located at 605 S. 25th St., Terre Haute, IN 47803.
