(Brazil, IN) The Clay County Commissioners conducted a public hearing Monday morning regarding the feasibility as well as the plans, specifications and a build, operate and transfer plan for the proposed expansion of the Clay County Jail. Commissioners gave each person four minutes to share their opinions. Each person who spoke were also required to state the zip code where they live. Some of the speakers were residents. Others were from out of county. Most who spoke were against any expansion. Clay County has a contract with the US Marshalls Service to hold ICE detainees and that has made the expansion more controversial. After hearing several comments Commissioners approved the resolutions by a 3-0 vote. The President of the Commission, Marty Heffner spoke to DLC Media News after the meeting.
