Casket Found At Construction Site

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – More human remains were found at the construction site for the Riverfront Lofts which is the former ICON building on First Street in Terre Haute.

Construction crews uncovered an entire intact coffin that likely dates to the early 1800’s.

The Indian Orchard Cemetery was once located on the site before a can company built the facility in the mid 1900’s.

Construction has been halted while Indiana State University Anthropologist Dr. Shawn Phillips can analyze the area.

Crews found a human skull on the site and students have now been carefully sifting through dirt looking for more remains as well as coffin parts.

Workers said they knew there was a chance they could run into remains.

Work has been halted at the site for now.
