One Killed When Vehicle Slams Into Fire Truck On I-70

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind – Just after 8:00 a.m., Sunday (12/29/19) morning first responders were called to a crash on Interstate 70 near the thirty-eight mile marker.  Indiana State Police say that the Cloverdale Fire Department personnel positioned all emergency vehicles in the passing lane of I-70, with all emergency lights on.

A 2019 Tesla, driven by a 25 year old Derrick N. Monet, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, failed to move over and ran into the back of a parked fire truck. Monet and a passenger, his wife, 23 year old Jenna N. Monet, also of Prescott Valley, Arizona, received serious injuries from the impact.  Both occupants had to be extricated and were transported to the hospital for immediate medical care.  Jenna Monet later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

Indiana State Police say that Drugs and alcohol are not a contributing factor of crash.
