Plea Deal For Brazil Asst. Police Chief

BRAZIL, Ind – In court Monday the drunk driving arrest case involving the Brazil Assistant Police Chief was resolved in court with a plea agreement.

43 year old Dennis Archer pleaded guilty to reckless driving and a charge of operating with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more was dropped.

Archer was arrested June 22 during a traffic stop by Indiana State Police in Brazil.

Indiana State Police said Archer had a blood alcohol level of .09 percent.

Vigo County Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts acted as special prosecutor in the case.

The plea deal calls for a suspended 60-day jail sentence with credit for time spent in jail. Archer is to be on informal probation for 305 days and must perform 40 hours of community service and he will be required to participate in an alcohol and drug treatment evaluation.

Archer is a 19-year veteran of the Brazil Police Department.

Officials said that there would be no disciplinary action taken by the city.
