VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. this evening at the Vigo County Annex on a proposed increase in the county income tax.
The Vigo County Commissioners has requested an increase of the income tax from 1.25% to 2%.
.25% would go to pay for construction of a new jail that would end in 20 years.
.20% would go for new correctional and rehabilitation facilities, which would also end in 20 years.
.20% would be for a public safety tax, which would pay to fund jail operations and staffing.
.10% would be for 911 dispatching.
