Sullivan Students See What Can Happen In A Drunk Driving Crash

SULLIVAN, Ind – Sullivan High School students witnessed first-hand the reality and consequences of impaired driving, at the scene of a mock drunk-driving crash, held Thursday afternoon at the school.

The teens witnessed firefighters using the Jaws-of-Life to extricate their friends from the mangled vehicles, just before they were whisked away in waiting ambulances. Student volunteers played the part of injured victims.

Emergency crews from the Sullivan City Fire Department, Sullivan County Ambulance Service and Air Evac Lifeteam joined officials from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan City Police, and Indiana State Police.

Students stood uncharacteristically quiet, and tears were seen on faces, as Sullivan Fire Chief Rob Robertson covered students that did not survive.

Sheriff Clark Cottom narrated the happenings, stressing to students to have a “safe ride”, pre-planned well before getting into a vehicle with an intoxicated driver.

Vehicles were provided by Recovery Plus Towing.
