Victim Identified In Sullivan Police Shooting

SULLIVAN, Ind — Thursday afternoon an autopsy was conducted on the woman involved in a standoff with police on Wednesday the Days Inn Motel on SR 154 in Sullivan.

Police say that 49-year-old Leslie Shayne Miller of 309 S. Jackson Street in Shelburn died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest.

Troopers involved in the police action shooting are Indiana State Police Sergeant George Smith with 23 year of service; Senior Trooper Derrek Simpson with 11 years of service, and Trooper Coty Seifert with 5 years of service.  All Troopers are assigned to the South Zone Emergency Response Team.

The investigation by Indiana State Police is continuing.

Once the investigation is complete, the report will be submitted to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review.

Police were called to the scene by motel management who told police that a woman was making threats and would not leave the establishment.
