Vigo School Corporation Working To Update Backpack Program

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. — The Vigo County School Corporation back pack program is being examined to make sure it is working as well and efficiently as it can.

The backpack program over 4,000 students each month by providing healthy food to children in need while they’re not at school.

School’s send home a pack with nutritional food to kids who might not have access during the weekends or long breaks.

When the program started seven years ago it only cost about $50,000 a month to provide all the packs but now the cost is around $180,000 a month.

Officials are looking at ways they can keep reduce cost and continue provide for needy students.
