VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind – Vermillion County Police were called to an apartment on Gilbert Street in Fairview and that screaming could be heard in the background.

Later the same person called back to told police that the man causing problems had left.

Officers say that their investigation shows that 47 year old James Vandevender had been in a physical altercation with a woman in the apartment complex and that he had held her down chocked her, but had left prior to deputies arrival.

Vandevender was found in the area a short time later.

Police say that he was in possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and a syringe at the time of his arrest.

He was arrested on charges of Domestic Battery, Strangulation, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia and Illegal Possession of a Syringe.

Vandevender is currently being held on $10,000.00 bond.

Vandevender is on probation for previous cases for possession and dealing methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement.
