VIGO COUNTY, Ind – A political action committee has been formed with a goal of influencing voters to approve a tax hike to support Vigo County Schools.

If approved, the referendum would increase property taxes for operating expenses by an estimated $7 million per year for eight years.

Vigo County School Superintendent Rob Haworth will serve as chair for “Vote Yes for Vigo County Schools.”

Even though Haworth is the chair the PAC is independent of the school district.

Haworth will also be in charge of fundraising for the PAC while Duke Energy’s government and community relations manager for West Central Indiana Rick Burger will help.

The operating referendum is being requested to help support expenses for safety, health and wellness, and the loss of revenue due to declining student population and tax caps. It also would be used to help improve teacher and staff salaries.
