At Southwood Nursing Home, Shonda French, age 43, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 17th. She was born on June 6th, 1976, in Decatur, Illinois, to Cheri Barnes and Robert Fugate. Shonda lived most of her life in Terre Haute, Indiana, and California. Shonda was an outgoing person; she enjoyed her life to the fullest. She loved trying new things and going on adventures. Family and friends always came first in her eyes. In her free time, she spent it with her beloved miniature pinscher Bella; in fact, Bella was another daughter to Shonda. Shonda’s favorite movie was Frozen and one of her favorite songs was I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack.

In early January Shonda was involved in a horrible car accident. She suffered from severe brain damage, among other health issues, due to the accident. Shonda stayed strong throughout the whole thing.

She is survived by her dad Robert Fugate, stepmother Debra Goings, stepfather Charlie Barnes, three daughters Carol French (James), Cheyenne French, Shanda Hernandez (Anthony), one son Mark French (Taylor), three sisters, three brothers, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving mother, Cheri Barnes, sister Angle Fugate, and six grandparents.

The family would like to thank everyone who prayed for her in her time of need. They want to thank Deaconess Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital (both in Evansville, Indiana) for the excellent care she received when she was there.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been chosen, with no services scheduled at this time.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
