Terre Haute And Local Groups To Receive CARES Act Funds

TERRE HAUTE, Ind – The city of Terre Haute will receive about $900,000 in federal CARES Act grants later this summer. The federal relief money to be used to assist non-profit organizations that serve those most impacted by COVID-19.

The Department of Redevelopment has proposed using about $300,000 of the Housing and Urban Development grants for a day center for the homeless while the balance would be allocated to five local non-profit organizations.

Those organizations are:

* $33,000 to the Vigo County School Corp. backpack food program

* $470,000 to Union Health

* $33,000 to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute Food Bank

* $33,000 to Hamilton Center

* $33,000 to the Wabash Valley Health Center

The money would be spent on services, medical supplies, food supplies and other related essentials used to help those affected by the COVID-19 virus.

Public comment on the proposed spending of those funds is being accepted during regular business hours at the Department of Redevelopment offices in City Hall. The comments must be submitted by 4 p.m. June 5.
