Indianapolis Man Sentenced For Killing Police K-9

FISHERS, Ind. — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced for shooting and killing a police K-9 last year.

Richard Garrett, 20, will spend six years in prison for killing Harlej on November 13.

Garrett led police on a high-speed chase on I-69 at speeds over 100 miles per hour before he crashed. He then ran into a wooded area in Fishers. Fishers police had Harlej chase after him, but Garrett shot the K-9 in the head.

Garrett pled guilty to charges including striking a law enforcement officers and resisting law enforcement.
