Betty Marie McDowell, 92, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Providence Health Care. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Vincennes to John L. and Clementine Pauline (Vieke) Smith.
Betty is survived by her children: Patty A. Flowers, Janice Lee, and Joe (Susan) McDowell, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jamie McDowell of TX, Heath (Amanda) Lee of Terre Haute, Andy (Ashley) Lee of Clinton, Mary McDowell of Terre Haute, and Audrey (Tyler) Rohlman of GA; sister, Ruth Mangin of MI; brother-in-law, Bill Mangin of Washington; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Biggs; ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray McDowell; sons, Larry McDowell and James McDowell; and siblings, Robert (Mae) Vieke, Virginia Mangin, John C. Smith, and Barney (Barb) Smith.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Church for over 70 years. She attended Brown’s Business College. A natural people person, Betty worked as a cashier and retired from Meis, Montgomery Ward, and Steinmart. She loved to play cards. Betty was an excellent quilter. Her biggest achievement, however, was being a devoted mother to her children and a loving grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, March 1 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at noon on Monday in Roselawn Memorial Park.
